WEST VALLEY-MISSION
COMMUNITY COLLEGE DISTRICT
BOARD OF TRUSTEES

A Dedicated Champion
for Student Success

ABOUT ME

A Lifelong Commitment to Education
and Community

I am running for West Valley Mission Community College Board of Trustees Area 7 with the goal of assisting all students, at both colleges, achieve their academic goals on time. To be committed to student success is not just a value, it is also having first-hand experiences working within the community college system and knowing how to effectively implement good concepts and ideas. I have nearly 35-years of direct teaching experience as a Community College Professor in Kinesiology, Health Education, and as a Baseball Coach.

I am a product of the California Community College system, an idea that for decades has encouraged millions of Californians to fulfill their dreams of higher education. I bring a unique perspective to the District as I have been a full-time Kinesiology and Health Education instructor at San Jose City College since 1994. My entire professional career has been in education, (including middle school and teaching and coaching at the community college level).

If elected, I will work hard to ensure that the WVMCCD students receive a high-quality education with a breadth of curriculum at the college that will allow students to select a major that is right for them. The District should offer classes students need and want, be able to accommodate and create a flexible structure to address enrollment issues in real time.

During my career at San Jose City College, I served in faculty leadership positions that have provided me with the experience to understand the community college system and develop my communication and collaboration skills working with all college constituents.

As a teacher who has worked with thousands of students, I understand the importance of (1) a clear registration process, (2) developing an education plan and cultivating rapport with the counselor, (3) navigating financial aid, and (4) providing high quality instruction. A community college governing board should be composed of trustees who have deep experience in the community college system, and will be responsive to those who work within that system.
